Avagaha Sweda

Avagaha Sweda, meaning "immersion sweating," is a preparatory treatment used in Ayurvedic therapy, particularly before Panchakarma. This method involves immersing the patient in a large tub filled with warm medicated liquid, which is intended to induce sweating.

The liquid is typically filled up to the navel, and in cases of severe rheumatism or other Vata-related disorders, it may be filled up to the neck. For enhanced sweating, a blanket may be placed over the patient and the tub to create a steam effect.

Avagaha Sweda is effective for treating conditions such as hernia, painful urination, rheumatism, and other ailments associated with imbalanced Vata dosha. The treatment helps to promote detoxification, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation by encouraging the body to expel toxins through sweat.
